Describe the “Golden Age†in American higher education. Then, analyze the impact of demographics and funding on higher education. Why do you think the GI Bill gained so much momentum? What are its benefits and drawbacks? How is it influential today?
The Golden Age in American higher education refers to a dramatic change that affected higher education institutions. There was a huge expansion of college student enrolling into all type of educational institution. During the Golden Age period, there was more access to receive a public and private education. There was boomingly increasing in community college and vocational college. This particular time period the educational soil was so fertile, due to the country’s involvement in the wars during this. Community colleges and the vocational/technical school allowed the postwar society to create new innovations that can help the economy move forward into economic success (Thelin, 2011). As the enrollment rate increase, the state, and the government became very resourceful. Government formulated public policies at both the state and federal levels that provide tuition grants to aid for students to support increased enrollment in private and public colleges.
During this period, the demographics of higher education became very diverse and complex. More students and more academic areas of study became available. The GI Bill gained momentum because it allowed servicemen and postwar veterans the opportunity to have access to education. Not only did they provide the enrollment rates at all higher educational institutions but it created the opportunity for these veterans to increase their income.

The Golden Age of American higher education coincided with the rise of the American middle class and the creation of programs for veterans of the previously fought WW2. Amidst these programs were stipends for buying homes in the suburbs, an influx of community colleges, and other transformative ventures that the U.S. government created. The creation of community colleges. Expansion is higher in economically developed countries as classic theories would have it. Growth is greater where secondary enrollments are high and where state control over education is low, consistent with conflict and competition theories.
