TASK The research proposal for this semester will be based on doing research related to applied leadership in practice. You will not be required to make project arrangements with an organisation to complete the proposal. The research on leadership you will undertake is related to the following broad statement:
When a transformational leader has been successful in one context, it doesnt always follow that they will be successful in another. There are examples in the literature of leaders leaving one organisation where they were successful and commencing in another where over time, they have not been successful. The reasons for this failure appear to relate to a number of internal and external forces which are not always clear. The leader herself may miss important signals within the organisation e.g., the power of internal groups, and many others. While the leader thinks that success in one organisation will automatically lead to success in another, the evidence for this is mixed.
Given this statement above, write up a 1,000 word project proposal that reflects the following:
1.A paragraph stating what you might hope to learn by researching the broad statement above; e.g., something about leadership skills or something else.
2.Imagine if you are a leader that leaves one organisation where you were a successful leader and you join another based on your reputation. Explain what different or new situations you might expect in the new organisation. Make assumptions about situations you have observed in previous organisations and/or make assumptions about the new context or situation you might expect to find.
3.Write a paragraph that critically reflects on point 2. That is, having made assumptions about these new situations/contexts, think about the potential challenges you might face and suggest potential strategies (both professional and personal) that you might put in place in overcome or manage these challenges if they arise. You can then build on these reflections in assignment 3, the critical reflection journal.
4.Think also about the consequences that might be felt/experienced by other members of the organisation who will live the experience of you being an incoming leader adapting to a new situation and organisational culture. You can then build on these reflections in assignment 3, the critical reflection journal.
